Schronisko Carla i Massimo Semenzów
Situated at an altitude of 2020 meters, the Carlo and Massimo Semenza Shelter is a place with a rich history.
Established in 1925 in memory of Carlo Semenzy. Perfect for mountain hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers.
In 1925, Carlo Semenza founded the Vittorio Veneto section of the Italian Alpine Club, to which the shelter belongs. Two weeks after his death, in December 1961, the council decided to build a shelter in his memory at Forcella Lastè. Work began the following year, in June 1962. The official inauguration took place on September 22, 1963. During this period, from 1959 to September 1965, the president of the section was Massimo Semenza, Carlo's first son, also an engineer and mountaineer, who died in July 1979.
On June 26, 1983, with the inauguration of the winter camp, the name of the shelter was changed to Carlo and Massimo Semenza. The following year, in October 1984, the bivouac was moved to Forcella Lastè, on its current location. The shelter with 18 beds is open every day from June 15 to September 15. It is also open on weekends until October.
The current management is entrusted to Nadia Benetti and her husband Franco Perlotto, a great alpinist of the 1970s and 1980s with over two thousand ascents in almost fifty countries around the world and former manager of the Bocalatte Refuge in Grandes Jorasses.
